What is Wilderness Therapy?
We are not a "boot camp" or a "brat camp," nor do we use punitive punishment, degrading labels or manipulation
to force change on adolescents.
Pinnacle's definition of "Wilderness Therapy" means we utilize the peace and serenity of the beautiful landscapes of
Utah as a catalyst for change and intense therapeutic learning. THe distraction-free atmosphere accelerates the recovery
process and builds individual strengths. Students are treated with concern and respect while they are confronting their individual
struggles. All students receive similar gear as staff, and are well-equipped to live in an outdoor environment.
Daily Activities include:
- Group Therapy and Reflection
- Curriculum (2.5 High School Credits)
- Journal Writing
- Walking and Hiking
- Learning Survival Skills
- Cooking Own Meals (will all-natural foods)
- Maintaining Personal Pack and Bedding
Weekly Educational Classes:
- First Aid Certification
- CPR Certification
- Drug and Alcohol Addiction Education
- Benefits of Sexual Abstinence
- Spirituality Workshop
Showers are also provided 2 times per week to maintain personal hygiene.
The first 3 days are focused on acclimation to surroundings and acceptance of the new environment and group. Students also
receive individual weekly therapy with our experienced licensed Clinical Therapists, which is coordinated with parental therapy
to ensure desired treatment objectives. Immediate family members will have the opportunity to participate in our 1 ½-day
Parent Workshop, to bring about united parenting and to recapture strained relationships between parent and child. Clinical
teams meet weekly to evaluate treatment plans and progress of each student, ensuring that goals are met and students are progressing.
